One of the most important aspects that players need to know in order to be able to clear the many difficult contents in Chaos Zero Nightmare is how to build a proper synergistic team between different characters. In this guide, we will go over all of the important considerations players need to know when building a team in Chaos Zero Nightmare and show players some of the best team synergies in the game.

When building a team in Chaos Zero Nightmare, there are several considerations you need to make regarding who to bring in the same team and what to look out for when building a proper team.

When building a team in Chaos Zero Nightmare, players will be able to deploy up to 3 different characters in the same team in order to challenge the different contents in the game. For end game contents like Basin, you will need to make at least 2 different teams of 3 members, for a total of 6 different characters in order to challenge 2 different sections of enemies.

Chaos Zero Nightmare Teams

Generally speaking, the characters in a team should adhere to a 1 Main DPS, 1 Sub DPS/Support and 1 Sustain composition to maintain consistency and ease when clearing the different contents in the game. However, this is just the general way a team is built and different characters with different playstyles may deviate from this team formation.

The main DPS should be the character with the most attacking abilities in the team, with their main gimmick relies heavily on using attack cards to deal damage to enemies and should function with the help of other characters’ by benefiting from allies’ buffs.

The Sub DPS Support slot is mainly reserved for characters that want to follow up the Main DPS’s downtime by dealing their own damage or supply the main DPS with beneficial effects like buffs, debuffs on enemies and the most crucial thing: Card Draws and Deck Shuffle so that the main DPS can get as much of their attack cards as possible.

The Sustain character is crucial when facing enemies as the HP bar in the team is shared between all allies, meaning if the HP of one character is depleted, everyone will lose HP. This means that maintaining a good healing or shielding in the face of enemies attacks are extremely crucial. Additionally, when challenging Chaos or Zero System, having a sustain will help reduce allies’ stress when the sustain character heals allies.

All of the characters in Chaos Zero are assigned a different class that signifies their role in a team, with the class somewhat influence their general playstyle as well:

– Strikers: The attacking class of the game with characters focuses mainly on using different Attack Cards to deal big damage to enemies, suitable for the Main DPS role.

– Hunter: A class that specializes in bombarding the enemies with as much damage as possible in a single turn by utilizing the different bullet mechanics, making them another good option for the Main DPS role.

– Ranger: Rangers generally work as sub DPS characters in a team, with their ability to supplement their damage output of the team with their various extra attack mechanics and provide the team with some good utility.

– Psionic: Psionic are specialized characters that deal damage to enemies by utilizing different effects that create and exhaust cards through certain conditions. The more cards you create and use up, the more damage they deal. They also offer some good debuffing utility for the team, making them fit both the Main and Sub DPS Roles.

– Vanguard: Vanguards are the tanks of the game, with their gimmick specializes in dealing defense-based damage and gimmicks revolving around providing the team with shield. The serves as both the sub DPS and the sustain role for various teams.

– Controller: Controllers are the main healing class of the game, with their various abilities offer different ways to buff the team and provide healing through various means. They are considered the essential support role characters and each have their own gimmick.

Chaos Zero Nightmare Controllers

There are a total of 5 different elements in the game, with all characters and enemies in the game falling into 1 of these 5 elements: Passion (Red), Instinct (Yellow), Order (Green), Void (Purple) and Justice (Blue).

Chaos Zero Nightmare Elements

There are several different damage types in the game depending on the character’s card effects:

– Normal Damage: These are the usual Attack-based damage that most character’s attack cards deal.

– Tenacity Damage: Tenacity triggers when attacking an enemy with their corresponding element. Tenacity damage does not reduce the enemies’ HP but instead reduces their Tenacity gauge, which once reduced to 0, grants the team 1 AP and increases the enemies’ action count.

– Piercing Damage: This type of damage completely ignores the enemies’ shield and directly affects the enemies’ HP bar.

– Extra Damage: This type of damage is not affected by card modifiers and acts as follow up attacks that trigger under certain circumstances. These attack instances are not considered as using cards.

– Damage Over Time: Damage that triggers when the enemy takes action, 1 stack deals damage proportional to the Damage Over Time modifier and the attack stat of the character that inflict the debuff.

In order to use different cards to do action within a turn, players will need to spend a resource known as AP or action point. AP can be gained at the start of each turn, after using specific cards or after reducing the enemies’ tenacity gauge to 0.

AP is one of the most important resources of the game that limits the amount of actions and cards you can use per turn, with each card using a different amount of AP, making it so that you will need to plan your turn and card order accordingly.

Another thing players need to consider in a turn is the enemies’ action count, which decreases by 1 after you use a card. Upon reaching 0, the enemy will use their attack or effect immediately. At the end of the turn, the enemies’ action count will automatically decrease to 0.

The last important aspect that players need to consider when building a team is the individual characters’ card decks. When playing Chaos, players can build each character’s decks with various cards, making their deck size and cards vary wildly depending on your build. Generally speaking an average card deck is around 8 to 10 cards, making a total card deck of a team falls around the 30 cards mark.

This is important to note as at the start of each turn, players will only be able to draw 5 cards, and the hand can only hold up to 10 cards at one time, making it so that deck manipulation to get the cards that you need is extremely important when fighting enemies. If you draw cards you can’t use or cards that can’t combo well, then you will waste your turn. This makes card draw and shuffle effects an extremely important consideration when building a team.

Now that we have gone over the considerations that players need to make when forming a team in Chaos Zero Nightmare, here are some of the best team synergy combos that players can consider building upon:

As mentioned, card drawing and deck shuffling is one of the most important part of team building, and some of the characters in the game excels at these effects:

Nia: Nia is a 4-star Controller that excels at recycling and drawing cards with her ability that allows you to discard unused cards, look into the deck and activate cards without cost and straight up reshuffle used cards into the deck. She also offers healing and extra damage whenever the deck is shuffled, making her a very good character to bring for teams that want to cycle through the deck quickly.

Cassius: Cassius is a 4-star Controller with massive card draw and deck shuffle abilities thanks to his various cards that you can use to draw and shuffle the deck. He can be slotted in many different teams to cycle through the deck alongside characters like Nia to get the cards you need much quicker.

Veronica & Renoa: Veronica and Renoa are both 5-star characters that have a special card that allow you to draw cards relatively easily, with Renoa’s card allowing you to draw 2 cards from the deck and Veronica’s allowing you draw 2 other combatant’s cards. This coupled with their amazing damage output make them good Sub DPS characters to bring to cycle the deck while dealing damage.

The Defense-based damage synergy mainly revolves around the different Vanguard class characters in the game, making it so that they can run together in the same team:

– Magna: Magna can gain special counterattack whenever the team gains shield and will counterattack when the team is attacked while having shield.

– Amir: Amir can deal extra damage based on the amount of shielding the team has based on her defense while also providing the team with defensive and shield boosting effects.

– Maribell: Maribell functions similarly to Magna with her ability to counterattack and deal big damage to enemies based on the amount of shield the team have.

– Khalipe: Khalipe deals massive amounts of Defense-based damage to enemies if cards that cost 2 or more are used, which the majority of Vanguards characters have.

There are certain characters that benefits greatly from the specific card types being used continuously, making it very useful to bring these characters together for the best synergy:

Selena + Mei Lin: Mei Lin is a Passion main DPS that benefits greatly from players using as many Passion cards as possible in a turn to deal boosted damage against enemies that have their Tenacity bar broken. This makes Selena her best synergistic Partner thanks to Selena’s abilities to quickly reduce the enemies’ Tenacity, implanting Passion Weakness onto the enemies to boost Mei Lin’s damage and help supplement the team’s damage with extra attacks using the Mark status.

Luke/Tressa + Hugo: Hugo is a character that gains special Hunt stacks that are triggered when another ally uses a targeted attack card against an enemy, allowing him to deal extra damage to them. This make it so that characters that uses a lot of targeted attack cards like Luke or Tressa can allow Hugo to spam his Extra Attack, resulting in massive amount of single target for free in a single turn.

Kayron + Rei: Kayron is a character that wants to create and exhaust as many Futility Cards in his deck as possible in order to enable his skill kit to deal massive amounts of nuke damage to enemies. Therefore, his perfect partner is Rei, with her ability to increase Void Elemental damage while also helping to exhaust some of Kayron’s Futility Cards thanks to her effects.

Luke + Lucas: The pair of brothers make use of bullets as their main damaging mode, which make their card deck synergize very well with each other, with Lucas being able to deal extra damage whenever a Bullet card is Exhausted and Luke taking full advantage of Lucas’ Bullet Damage Increase buff.
