Chaos Zero Nightmare The Great Rift Gamemode – Everything You Need To Know
What Is The Great Rift
The Great Rift is a special game mode in Chaos Zero Nightmare introduced with the 2nd expansion of the Forbidden Catalyst Galactic Disaster Update patch. This game mode is a rotation gamemode that will reset every 3 weeks alongside expansion updates. The progress of this gamemode is kept for the entirety of the gamemode’s rotation and will only reset once the season is reset.
The Great Rift is a special game mode where players challenge a 2-phase boss fight with 2 different teams of 3 characters, with each boss fight phase having different types of gimmicks and requiring different types of teams to deal with. The goal of fighting the boss is to deal as much damage to the boss as possible within a turn limit for each phase to obtain points. The higher the points you obtain, the more rewards you can obtain from the event.

Additionally, your highest point will be recorded and it will be pitted against other players in the form of the leaderboard, where you will be assigned a ranking based on how high your best points are and be rewarded at the end of the season.
The Great Rift Rewards
The points ladder rewards are divided into 3 main systems: Achievement rewards, Weekly Accumulative Rewards and Leaderboard Rewards.
Achievement rewards are given out to the players once they have achieved a certain amount of points within a single run. The highest number of points you achieve will be recorded and once you have reached a certain point threshold, you will be given a decent amount of rewards as a result of achieving that point amount.

Weekly Accumulative Rewards are special weekly rewards that can be obtained by challenging the game mode multiple times during the week. All of the points you collect from all the different records will be calculated together and once you reach a certain amount of accumulated points, you will be able to obtain special weekly rewards during the event period.

Finally, the Points Ladder Seasonal Leaderboard reward is a special type of reward that counts the highest points record each player has managed to achieve and pits them against other players. Based on the points of the players, they will be delegated into special reward tiers based on the performance of the entire servers, with rewards being given out depending on the reward tiers. The higher the reward tier you are at, the more rewards you will obtain at the end of the season of The Great Rift. This reward is reset on a seasonal basis, so players only need to get as high a point amount as possible during a season for it to count.

The Great Rift Boss And Gimmicks
Now that we have gone over the details regarding how The Great Rift gamemode works, let’s dive deeper into the boss mechanics of the 2nd expansion of the Forbidden Catalyst update patch rotation of The Great Rift gamemode.
The first The Great Rift runs from the 2nd of December until the 23rd of December, 2025 and features the Suppressed Servant Boss. The boss is weak to Order damage on its 1st phase and is weak to Void damage on its second phase.
At the start of the battle, the boss will add special negative status cards into the players’ discarded pile that will be activated if the players do not manage to decrease the special gimmick counter of the boss quickly enough, adding special cards into your hand that apply vulnerable on the team, making it impossible to survive the turn. Alternatively, if players manage to get the gimmick counter of the boss down quickly enough, the negative status effect cards will be converted to special positive cards that allows players to apply vulnerability on the boss and allow you to draw cards.
The boss gimmicks are designed differently based on the phase of the fight:
– The first phase: The boss will continuously spawn up to 3 enemies that apply Morale and deal damage to the team. To decrease the boss gimmick counts, players will need to kill as many of these spawn enemies as quickly as possible. Upon killing enough mob enemies, the negative status cards will be converted to special beneficial cards and allow you to do massive amounts of damage. It is highly recommended that players bring AoE characters and Order element characters for this phase of the fight.
– The second phase: During this phase, the boss will test the players’ ability to deal damage with as many damaging cards as possible or with damage cards that have multiple hits. The boss will gain the gimmick count that is decreased based on the amount of hits the boss takes from damage cards, the more hits or damage cards you use, the faster the counter decreases. It is highly recommended that players bring characters that can cycle damaging cards quickly and DPS characters with attack cards that deal multiple hits against this boss phase.
Chaos Zero Nightmare The Great Rift Gamemode – Best Teams To Top The Leaderboard
1st Phase Best Teams
As mentioned, due to the gimmick of the first phase of the boss, the teams challenging the first phase boss should revolve around a main DPS character that can deal AoE attacks to be able to clear the enemy waves as quickly as possible.
Some of the best teams to use for this phase is:
![]() | ![]() | ![]() |
| Yuki | Veronica | Nia |
| Main DPS | Sub DPS/Support | Sustain |
Main DPS: Yuki is the team’s main DPS that fulfill both the criteria of having the Order element and has an AoE centric skill kit. Her abilities to quickly draw her cards and trigger Inspiration effects allow her to clear enemies waves quickly and efficiently.
Sub DPS: Veronica is the team’s sub DPS option thanks to her various draw cards being able to quickly draw the deck and help Yuki cycle the deck as well as trigger her Inspiration effects. Veronica herself can also supplement the damage output of the team thanks to her Ballista cards.
Sustain: Nia serves as the team main sustain option with her ability to quickly cycle the deck and get Yuki her cards as quickly as possible while healing the team.
![]() | ![]() | ![]() |
| Mei Lin | Veronica | Nia |
| Main DPS | Sub DPS/Support | Sustain |
Main DPS: Mei Lin is the team’s main DPS. Unlike other teams that focus on dealing with the different mob enemies, Mei Lin’s team focuses on nuking as much damage against the boss enemy as quickly as possible by constantly moving her basic attack cards on hand and then nuking them using her 2 cost card. This team needs to quickly nuke down the boss as quickly as possible, otherwise this team will fall apart.
Sub DPS: Veronica also serves as the team’s sub DPS support thanks to her ability to quickly cycle the deck with her draw cards. Additionally she has a lot of 0 cost cards with the Passion element to allow Mei Lin to nuke with her important card more reliably.
Sustain: Nia once again serves as the team’s sustain to allow for quick deck rotation and healing.
2nd Phase Best Teams
The second phase of the boss revolves around using as many attack cards as possible or attack cards with high hit counts with Void element so the majority of best team comps revolve mainly around 2 DPS options: Chizuru and Tressa.
![]() | ![]() | ![]() |
| Tressa | Cassius | Mika |
| Main DPS | Support | Sustain |
Main DPS: Tressa serves as the team’s main DPS thanks to her ability to generate quick 0 cost daggers that can be used constantly against the boss. In addition, she can apply a large amount of DoT on the boss, dealing extra damage. For this team to work players will need to duplicate as many upgrade cards that allow Tressa to gain Dagger on heals as much as possible.
Sub DPS/ Support: Cassius serves as the team’s main support to quickly generate Morale thanks to his quest completion mechanic that provides the team with Morale boost whenever his quest is complete. Players will need the card to allow him to pick his quest and start the triple 0 quest, which can be completed quickly and effectively when using Tressa’s daggers.
Sustain: Mika serves as the team’s sustainer to allow constant AP generation and healing to help generate daggers for Tressa.
![]() | ![]() | ![]() |
| Chizuru | Cassius | Rei |
| Main DPS | Support | Sustain |
Main DPS: Chizuru is the team’s main DPS option with her ability to deal constant Void damage with attack cards that have many hits. She can deal big damage the more attacks are used against the boss.
Sub DPS/Support: Tressa or Cassius can serve as the sub DPS support in this team thanks to their low cost cards that can be spam to allow Chizuru to gain her Will O’ Wisp stacks quickly and effectively.
Sustain: Rei serves as the team’s main sustain thanks to her ability to heal on attacking and her cards which boost the damage output of Void cards, boosting the damage of Chizuru.
