The poster girl for the Penacony Arc of Honkai Star Rail and the pioneer of the Break team in Honkai Star Rail, Firefly is making her grand return with the release of Honkai Star Rail Version 3.8 update patch. Therefore, in this guide, we will go over how players can best prepare for and build the best Firefly in Honkai Star Rail.

Firefly is a 5-star character of the Fire Element and the Destruction path. She serves as the Break Team’s main DPS hypercarry with her powerful Break-centric skill kit that can deal massive amounts of damage to enemies when their weakness bars are broken.

Normal: Deal 1 Fire Damage Instance to 1 Enemy

Enhanced: Heal SAM by 20% before dealing 1 fire damage instance to 1 enemy.
Leveling Priority: Low
Basic Attack
Reason: Firefly rarely uses her Basic Attack unless necessary, so players do not need to level this up in most cases.
Normal: Consumes 40% of Firefly’s HP to generate 60% of energy for Firefly. Then deal 1 instance of Fire damage to 1 enemy, advancing Firefly’s action by 25%.
Enhanced: Heal SAM by 20%, apply Fire Weakness to 1 designated target then deal Fire Damage to the target and their adjacent enemies. The damage dealt is increased proportional to Firefly’s Attack and Break Effect.
Leveling Priority: Highest
Skill
Reason: Firefly’s main mode of dealing damage and must be leveled up to max in order to maximize her damage output.
Enters SAM mode and advances Firefly’s action by 100%. When in SAM Mode, Firefly gains an increased speed boost, gain increased weakness break efficiency and deal increased Break damage to enemies.
SAM mode has a limited duration on the action bar and will run out once the action is triggered.
Leveling Priority: High
Ultimate
Reason: Increasing the level of Firefly’s Ultimate helps boost the amount of Break damage she deals against enemies and the amount of speed stat she gains, allowing her to take actions much more frequently. Therefore, players should level this as high as possible.
Firefly receives less damage the lower her HP is. While in SAM Mode, this damage reduction effect is always active at its maximum value and grants Firefly additional Effect Resistance increase.
At the start of the battle, if Firefly’s energy is less than 50%, generates energy to 50%. When Firefly has 100% Energy, dispel all debuffs on herself.
Leveling Priority: High
Talent
Reason: Increase the level of her talent allows Firefly to take less damage and gain more effect resistance stat, helping to keep her alive for longer.
During the Complete Combustion, attacking enemies that have no Fire Weakness can also reduce their Toughness, with the effect being equivalent to 55% of the original Toughness Reduction from abilities.
Unlock Priority: High
Bonus Ability 1
Reason: Allow Firefly to break the weakness of enemies that don’t have Fire Weakness, allowing her to deal Break damage to them.
When SAM is in Complete Combustion with a Break Effect that is equal to or greater than 200%/360%, attacking a Weakness-Broken enemy target will convert the Toughness Reduction of this attack into 1 instance of 35%/50% Super Break DMG.
Unlock Priority: Highest
Bonus Ability 2
Reason: Grants Firefly her main damaging effect where she can deal Super Break Damage against enemies based on how high her Break Effect stat is.
For every 10 point(s) of SAM’s ATK that exceeds 1800, increases this unit’s Break Effect by 0.8%.
Unlock Priority: High
Bonus Ability 3
Reason: Provides Firefly with a massive Break Effect boost the higher her Attack is.

Firefly playstyle is relatively simple in nature, but its simplicity makes it one of the easiest and highest damage playstyle in the game. Firefly’s gimmick is simple: Enter her Ultimate form as quickly as possible to gain increased Attack, Break Effect and Speed and take actions as quickly as possible in order to break the enemies’ weaknesses and deal Super Break Damage to them before her Ultimate runs out.

Firefly starts the fight in her normal mode, with 50% of her Ultimate bar filled up. Upon using her Skill in normal mode, she will consume 50% of her HP to fill her Ultimate by that amount, allowing her to use her Ultimate. Once her Ultimate is used, Firefly will enter her SAM mode and will be able to take action immediately.

Once in SAM mode, Firefly will get a massive boost in Attack, Speed and Break Effect and will attack 3 enemies at once with her enhanced skill, applying the Fire Weakness to the main target and reducing the enemies’ Break Bar with each attack. Upon reducing the Break Bar of enemies to 0 or when she attacks enemies that have been weakness broken, she will deal Super Break Damage to them. SAM mode has a limited duration on the action bar and will end once the action arrives, however, the more speed Firefly has, the more actions she can do before she exits SAM Mode. Additionally, all of Firefly’s Enhanced Skill during SAM mode will heal her up when attacking enemies.

As a Main DPS for the Break Team, Firefly needs 3 different types of stats to maximize her damage output: Break Effect, Speed and Attack%.

OrbAttack% or Fire Damage%

Important Stat Threshold:

– Since Break damage can’t deal critical damage, players do not need to invest in Firefly’s Critical stats.

– To Maximize Firefly’s damage output, players will need to reach 360% Break Effect for her talent effect during Combat, so players should make this her main Break Effect bench mark.

– Players will need to invest in as much attack stat for Firefly as possible, ideally reaching at least 2600 Attack to allow her to gain the maximum amount of additional Break Effect.

– Depending on your Firefly’s playstyle, you should focus on managing her speed at around 150-161 Speed to allow her to take as many turns as possible while her Ultimate form is up.

FireflyThe DahliaFugueLingsha
Main DPSSub DPS/SupportSupportSupport/Sustain

This team is Firefly’s best team as it allows her to deal as much Break Effect as possible thanks to the support of The Dahlia and Fugue. The Dahlia allows Firefly to gain additional Break Efficiency boost while she is on the field in addition to providing Firefly with massive Break Effect and Energy boost thanks to her Dance Partner effect. Meanwhile, Fugue can make all enemies take double the Super Break Damage by making enemies gain an additional break bar and help boost Firefly’s Break Efficiency with her Skill. Lingsha serves as the team’s main sustain option with her powerful debuff that boost Break Damage dealt by all allies on enemies and her high Fire Break efficiency.

For alternative teammates, players can replace The Dahlia with Ruan Mei, Fugue with Harmony Trailblazer and Lingsha with Gallagher for a less costly but slightly lower team performance.
