Arknights Wang Guide – Everything You Need To Know

General Introduction

Wang is a 6-Star Limited Operator of the Specialist Class and the Trapmaster Archetype, an archetype that specializes in laying down traps on enemies’ path in order to deal Arts damage to them, with Wang being the epitome and the strongest possible applicator of this effect of the Archetype.

Arknights Wang

General Playstyle Analysis

Wang’s main gimmick lies in his amazing trap laying ability, which allows him to deploy Weiqi stones on the field that can deal Arts damage to both ground and aerial enemies. These Weiqi stones, when connected together, deal even more damage to enemies and reduce the enemies’ Resistances.

Wang’s main skill is his 3rd skill, which allows him to expand his attack range, dealing more damage to enemies within his range and allow him to automatically lay Weiqi stones against enemies within his attack range, dealing extremely high Arts damage to enemies. This skill costs ammos, but Wang can deactivate the skill whenever and receive a large amount of Weiqi stones in return.

Not only is Wang capable of dealing massive amounts of damage by himself, the fact that he can attack enemies by laying Weiqi stones anywhere on the map makes him a very powerful global range DPS character that can essentially nuke enemies to oblivion. Coupled this with his ability to be deployed at any remote area on the map to avoid enemies’ attacks and players will have a permanent uptime DPS character capable of carrying maps by himself.

Talent and Skill Analysis – Best Skill To Prioritize

Now that we have gone over what Wang’s general playstyle is like, it is important for us to have a deeper look into Wang’s Talents and Skills in order to best see what Wang excel at and which skill should players focus on mastering and using for Wang:

Talent 1
P1Can deploy up to 6 weiqi stones (can hold up to 7); stones link together and activate each other; enemies that enter a tile with an active stone will trigger its effects; when manually deploying a stone, Wang will deploy an additional stone on a tile next to it (at most 9 stones, prioritize deploying on undeployable tiles with enemies)
P3Can deploy up to 7 (+1) weiqi stones (can hold up to 8 (+1)); stones link together and activate each other; enemies that enter a tile with an active stone will trigger its effects; when manually deploying a stone, Wang will deploy an additional stone on a tile next to it (at most 10 (+1) stones, prioritize deploying on undeployable tiles with enemies)
Analysis: Wang’s most important and main gimmick talent that let him possess and lay down Weiqi stones or traps onto the field to deal Arts damage to enemies. At P2, this talent is improved to allow Wang to deploy and hold 1 extra stone at the maximum, which is a very good improvement for his overall playability and playstyle.
Talent 2
P1When a stone is activated, for every stone in the same straight chain, all stones within that chain deal an additional 10% damage and ignore 9 RES (stacks up to 3 times)
P5When a stone is activated, for every stone in the same straight chain, all stones within that chain deal an additional 12% (+2%) damage and ignore 10 (+1) RES (stacks up to 3 times)
Analysis: Wang’s 2nd talent helps improve his damage by allowing his Weiqi stones to deal more damage to enemies when linked together and ignore a large portion of the enemies’ resistances that can be stacked. At P5, this talent’s value is improved slightly, offering him a better damage output overall.
Skill 1: Power Play
Lv1Passive Effect: When a stone is triggered, target enemy is Slowed and receives 80% of Wang’s ATK as Arts damage every second for
6.5s
Active Effect: Gain 2 stones
Lv7Passive Effect: When a stone is triggered, target enemy is Slowed and receives 120% of Wang’s ATK as Arts damage every second for 6.5s
Active Effect: Gain 2 stones
Mastery 3Passive Effect: When a stone is triggered, target enemy is Slowed and receives 135% of Wang’s ATK as Arts damage every second for 6.5s
Active Effect: Gain 2 stones
Analysis: Wang’s 1st Skill is an automatic skill that allows his Weiqi stones to deal more damage, apply Slow and a DoT damage effect to enemies when the stones are triggered, which can be a decent skill to use if players want to have some crowd control effects.
However, this skill is not that useful for Wang and is rarely used in most stages due to Wang having better skills to use overall.
Mastery Priority: Low. This skill Mastery Level only improves the damage output slightly and doesn’t really affect the overall damage rotation or effectiveness of the skill, making it not worth the materials invested.
Skill 2: Wall of Stars
Lv1Passive Effect: When a stone is triggered, deals 360% ATK as Arts damage to all enemies within 3 tiles, but only in directions parallel to any links said stone has, and reduces their Movement Speed by 30% for 6s
Active Effect: Gain 2 stones
Lv7Passive Effect: When a stone is triggered, deals 480% ATK as Arts damage to all enemies within 3 tiles, but only in directions parallel to any links said stone has, and reduces their Movement Speed by 40% for 6s
Active Effect: Gain 2 stones
Mastery 3Passive Effect: When a stone is triggered, deals 580% ATK as Arts damage to all enemies within 3 tiles, but only in directions parallel to any links said stone has, and reduces their Movement Speed by 50% for 6s
Active Effect: Gain 2 stones
Analysis: Wang’s 2nd skill is essentially an upgraded version of his 1st skill, with more powerful damage output and movement speed reduction effect on enemies when hit in exchange for slightly worse range and relatively awkward weiqi titles management. This skill requires players to get used to positioning the Weiqi stones on the field properly for them to link up together in order to trigger the skill effect properly.
This skill has decent usage in many different stages and can be used relatively often once players have gotten used to the awkward Weiqi stone positioning, making it a relatively low cost but powerful skill.
Mastery Priority: High. This skill Mastery Level improves the skill’s damage output and its SP cooldown, helping to shorten the skill’s damage rotation and improve the skill’s overall damage output. Worth the material investment if players are to use this skill often.
Skill 3: All-Dominating Fight
Lv1Passive Effect: Stone trigger range and damage range expand, dealing 250% ATK as Arts damage
Active Effect: Stops attacking but Attack Range expands; grants 8 stones, then any stones above the limit are placed within Attack Range, prioritizing tiles with enemies; when manually placing stones within Attack Range, stones can be placed on tiles with enemies and Talent 1 deploys up to 3 additional stones at the cost of an equal amount of ammo
Skill activation grants 20 ammo, skill ends when manually deactivated or stones are depleted, any ammo remaining is refunded as stones
Lv7Passive Effect: Stone trigger range and damage range expand, dealing 320% ATK as Arts damage
Mastery 3Passive Effect: Stone trigger range and damage range expand, dealing 380% ATK as Arts damage
Analysis: Wang’s 3rd skill is his main skill, with its ability to extend Wang’s range and make it so that any Weiqi stones laid within the range is automatically linked with other Weiqi stones, allowing players to deal ridiculous amounts of damage to enemies the moment they step on one of the stones. Additionally, when activating this skill, Wang will automatically lay Weiqi stones within his attack range, making it easier for players to link these stones together.
The only downside to this skill is that Wang will not be able to attack during the duration of the skill and the Weiqi stones are limited during this time, once used up, the skill will automatically end.
Mastery Priority: Highest. Since this is Wang’s main skill, Mastery it to the highest level takes priority, with its Mastery Level massively improving the overall damage output and damage rotation for Wang.

Module – Is It Important

Alongside his skill, Wang is released alongside his module, which grants him additional upgrades to his Talent:

Arknights Wang Module
Module TRP-X: Beast-Shaped Stone Container
Lv. 1Attributes increased: HP +100, ATK +36
Trait improved:
Can use traps with a lower DP cost to assist in combat, but traps cannot be placed on tiles already occupied by an enemy; trap Deployment Limit increases
Lv. 2Attributes increased: HP +130, ATK +50
Every Move Anticipated improved:
When a stone is activated, for every stone in the same straight chain, all stones within that chain deal an additional 12% damage and ignore 11 RES (stacks up to 3 times)
Lv. 3Attributes increased: HP +150, ATK +60
Every Move Anticipated improved:
When a stone is activated, for every stone in the same straight chain, all stones within that chain deal an additional 13% damage and ignore 12 RES (stacks up to 3 times)
Analysis: This Module massively boost Wang’s damage output by improving his 2nd talent, allowing his Weiqi stones to deal even more damage and ignore an even larger portion of the enemies’ resistances. Additionally, this module reduces the cost of Wang’s traps and allows him to deploy more traps, helping to optimize his damage output even further.
Players should get Wang this module and level it up to level 3 as soon as possible.

Tips & Tricks For Playing Wang

Finally, now that we have gone over and analyze all of his abilities, let’s go over some of the tips and tricks players should use to best optimize Wang’s gameplay:

Arknights Wang E2

Treats Him As A Global Range Operator: Due to the nature of Trapmaster Specialist and Wang’s 3rd skill making him unable to attack, players can simply treat Wang as a global range operator and deploy his stones all over the map to deal damage to enemies at any place without worrying about Wang needing to be in range of the enemy. This not only means that players can just deploy Wang in a remote location where no enemies can touch him, but also means that Wang can deal damage to enemies anywhere on the map as long as he is on the field.

Deploy Wang With Other Sui: As a Sui Operator, Wang has immense synergy with other Sui siblings, especially with Shu and Yu. Shu grants Wang a massive attack buff and a SP regen buff when there are 4 Sui Operators in the squad, helping to boost Wang’s damage output and reduce his downtime significantly. Meanwhile, Yu has the ability to turn Wang’s damage into Elemental damage that can burn enemies, inflicting massive amounts of damage to enemies whenever his Weiqi stones are triggered.

Skill 3 Is The Main Skill, But Skill 2 Is Extremely Useful Too: Skill 3 is Wang’s main skill and is the skill that players will most likely use the most often in many battles. However, Wang’s 2nd skill is not something players should ignore either, as it has way lower downtime and without the no-attacking restriction on skill 3 while still being able to deal massive amounts of damage to enemies. Therefore, players should also learn to use Wang’s 2nd skill effectively as it can deal with many stages better than Wang’s 3rd skill.

Conclusion

With that, we have gone over a complete guide on how to properly play Wang in Arknights.
